MUPN sintering furnace: The world premiere of nuclear power of the future

As part of the global strategic Proryv project to produce the first nitrided nuclear fuel (MUPN), a major technological challenge has been overcome despite the destruction of conventional refractory materials at 2000°C. Using advanced CFD simulations and rigorous optimization of materials and insulation, the world’s only MUPN continuous sintering furnace was designed and delivered. This world first enabled the successful production of the first 1,000 new generation fuel rods, thus paving the way for the closed nuclear cycle of the future.

Optimization of Combustion & Durability of Refractory Materials

Faced with the repeated premature degradation of refractories in incineration furnaces, we led an international team to optimize materials, their use and combustion control. This approach made it possible to increase the profitability of assets thanks to 20% reduction in purchasing costs and of 30% of operating losses. All of these optimizations thus generated a direct financial impact of 2 million euros per year for the group.

Turnaround of the ATEMAX Pyrogasification Plant

As engineering consultants at Le Gaz Intégral tasked with turning around ATEMAX’s biomass pyrogasification plant in Normandy—which was facing two-year delays—we audited the design and restructured the interface engineering between functional packages. We then developed the entire commissioning program, including testing, refractory dry-out, and steam blowing, while authoring the global Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals. These targeted actions successfully resolved interface conflicts, secured the timeline toward the first fire, and clarified the plant handover process for the end customer.

Boosting the production of lithium-ion batteries without compromising on safety

Working to eliminate frequent shutdowns of a TABLAMI lithium-ion battery manufacturing machine — caused by untimely power outages when the door is opened — we carried out a surgical retrofit based on a 7-step methodology including ISO 12100 risk analysis and ISO 13849 PL_r safety recalculation. By modifying the electromechanical architecture and updating the logic of the automatons, we have made the production cycle fluid while respecting European standards. These actions made it possible to increase production capacity from 1,000 to 6,000 cells per day in just three weeks, with performance stabilized at more than 13 ppm.
